A User Research Synthesis is where you group your feedback into common themes. The exercise of putting together a User Research Synthesis can provide great value for a team.
The value of the synthesis
Identify common themes
It identifies common themes in user feedback whether negative or positive, we find the want is still the same.
Highlight top tasks
It shows how much feedback is linked to a common theme to show what is most important to your users, highlighting top tasks.
Externalise user feedback
It provides a space to share the user feedback and allow everyone to digest the information and have a common understanding.
Provide insights
It draws your attention to anomalies and insights to understand your users wants, needs, motivations, and behaviours even further.
Personal perspective
There are often many assumptions made by team members, sometimes there is a fleeting comment that sticks around proposing it is what all users agree on.
In dedicating a wall in the office to pin all user feedback and group them into themes, it brings to light what is really happening with the user and communicates it clearly with the whole team, so everyone is on the same page.
By gaining a clear understanding of the user feedback, means we are no longer misrepresented by assumptions and we can collaborate with more unity on the things that matter to our users.
